Teeth which have severe damage or decay as well as teeth which have recurrent abscesses, which form in the gum underneath the tooth can cause major problems to your tooth functioning, as well as discomfort. It might be time to have them removed. These may have to be extracted if they get infected or start to affect other teeth causing your oral hygiene to be compromised. 

Most tooth removals are performed under local anaesthetic by your Dentist at the Gill Dental , and sedation can also be administered to patients who are nervous or anxious.

Wisdom teeth

Wisdom teeth are the last adult teeth to emerge, most commonly during your late adolescence or early twenties. If they do not have enough space to fit behind your other adult teeth, or they erupt at an incorrect angle, this means they are impacted. If impacted wisdom teeth begin to cause severe pain, or if you experience infections in your wisdom teeth, we may recommend having them removed.

In the case of wisdom tooth extractions, you may have some swelling after the procedure and discomfort that can be eased with over-the-counter painkillers. In cases of advanced gum disease or periodontitis, antibiotics will be prescribed to reduce the risk of further infection.
